Ph.D. - Doctor of Philosophy (Academic Ph.D.)

Ph.D. is Doctor of Philosophy the much acclaimed Scholarly qualification one aspires to attain in life.  It’s a postgraduate Doctoral degree, awarded to scholars who complete an original thesis offering a significant new contribution to the extensive knowledge of their subject.  Ph.D. qualifications are available in all subjects and are normally the highest level of academic degree a person can achieve.

Its awarded by Accredited Universities worldwide and it involves hard work, determination, quest, knowledge to Complete the Research and be Awarded a Doctorate by the University.

On successful completion, the scholars can prefix ‘Dr.’ to their name. What a Privilege!!

Steps In Regular Ph.D.: Though the steps vary from University to University, the basic stages are as follows:

  1. Entrance exam
  2. Registration
  3. Topic Approval
  4. Viva
  5. Research Methodology Paper
  6. Interview
  7. Coursework and Paper presentation
  8. Thesis submission

It has to be done under the supervision of a Guide.  Guides are available with the University.  In case of unavailability, the Candidate can find one and register that guide with the University.  It normally takes minimum three years to 7 years to complete a Ph.D.

 

Ph.D. - Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa)

Honorary degrees represents one of the highest recognition of outstanding and distinguished contributions to scholarship, creativity, leadership, and humanitarian or public service, that represent a state-level, national or international model to others and reflect the broad mission of the university.

An honorary doctorate is a high-level academic recognition granted by a university to a recipient without completion of the normal requirements for that degree.

Schools grant them to honor the recipient, while also benefiting the university by association. Recipients sometimes have no relationship with the school, no prior degrees, and no formal higher education; though on occasion they might already have substantial education and other doctorates.

Documents required for approval of Nominations :

  1. CV – Biodata mentioning all the work experience, achievements, excellence, contributions impressing the monitoring board to recognize the distinguished services and award the honorary doctorate Ph.D./dLitt.
  2. Photograph
  3. Passport copy or any Government Identity Card for Identity Proof like Adhar, election, Driving License etc. It should have the photograph and name on it.

NB:  DLitt is postdoctoral qualifications.  It is awarded after possessing a Ph.D.

Some universities give honorary DLitt directly without a Ph.D.  It’s within the ambit or statutory of the university.

DLitt - Doctor of Letters

DLitt is Doctor of Letters.  It is a Post Doctoral Qualification.  It is achieved after Ph.D.

There are two types of DLitt.

  1. Regular DLitt  (Doctor of Letters)DLitt is of two years minimum afterPh.D. in the respective field.The steps are the same as Ph.D.  But it is in more detail.  The research is more intensive.EG.
